(500) Films of Empire - Day 182

297 - It Happened One Night - 4 stars
The first film to win the big 5 Oscars (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay), a feat that has only been repeated twice by One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The Silence Of The Lambs, so it comes with a lot of hype to live up to.
A typical screwball comedy of the time, in that our leading couple initially rub each other up the wrong way but eventually fall in love. It is a formula that has fallen into cliche over the years so it really depends on the chemistry of the couple as to the success of the film.
Luckily Gable and Colbert have it in abundance so we are happy to join them on their cross-country journey on the night bus.
Thinking about it, this film is screaming out for a remake on the Megabus from Aberdeen to London :)
There is a nice subplot about celebrity marriage and their relationship with the press that helps make it still relevant in today's society.

Days remaining - 183 Films remaining - 235
